While various European powers were in the heat of colonization, political thought was brought back the forefront of royal minds. European monarchs began to assert themselves like never before in the age of absolutism. As a result of these ideas, we get some pushback in the enlightenment, a time period arguably responsible for many of the values our government encompasses.
