Mr. Truran
Laughter is a large part of my life. I try to find the humor in life. When I'm not busy cracking a smile or trying to figure out a way to make others smile, I'll probably be tapping some kind of rhythm. I taught myself how to play drums 13 years ago, and have been playing ever since.
The thrill of the big city also captivates all of my senses. Being from Michigan, trips to Chicago are almost a necessity, but where I've been taken back most is New York City. Plus, I don't think I could ever turn down the offer to fly.
Flying also offers a chance to catch up on some reading, which can be tough at other times. I have a pretty wide range of what I like to read--anything from mystery, post-modern fiction, satirical fiction, cultural and musical autobiographies being my favorites.
I have been lucky to experience so much in my 25 years so far. I've traveled all over the country, gone to dozens and dozens of concerts, baseball and hockey games, playing in just as many too. I started skating when I was 4 and still go out and play every chance I get.
I first became interested in teaching my junior year of high school when I was named editor in chief of our school newsmagazine. I was in charge of overseeing the entire process and spent considerable amounts of time after school working on it. Of course, I also had some tremendous teachers, some of which I still keep in contact with. They've inspired me both academically and personally. Now I feel it's time to give back all that I
have been so lucky to receive--to give back through teaching.
